The album “Small Town World” by singer-songwriter Cindy Slee is a mixture of country and country/blues. Each song invites the listener to settle back and enjoy stories of love and loss; of fresh discovery and the commonplace; of the complex and the divinely simple. The manner in which the stories unfold allow the listener to clearly picture the scene that is set through melody, harmony and rhythm, all of which feel familiar yet copy no other artist. Cindy’s vocals are warm and engaging. She can belt out a humorous, raucous song like “One Margarita Away” and on the very next turn, break your heart with songs such as “Goodbye in Your Eyes.” The only cover song on this album, “Heart of Gold” is a Neil Young classic reimagined with strings instead of harmonica on solo duty. Neil would be proud. “Small Town World” is a trip through Cindy Slee’s domain where we’re lucky enough to be allowed to enter the circle of friends in her sphere.
